Prepare to be fanning yourself after watching this music video. Lizzo’s quirkiness, confidence, and sexiness make it quite obvious why this song and video have been trending for the past two weeks.
On Friday I clicked on Buddy’s Tiny Desk Concert on NPR not knowing who he was. Within minutes I was ecstatic to have discovered a new artist, but by the end I was frustrated. Frustrated because I couldn’t help but think, “How haven’t I heard of him before!”
Buddy (Simmie Sims III) is an up and coming artist from Compton, CA finding his own voice in Hip Hop and R&B. Ten years ago at the age of 15, Buddy had already caught the attention of Pharrell Williams who began showing him the ropes. The influence of early collaborator Kendrick Lamar’s introspective story-telling and Pharrell’s liveliness and production quality are both apparent in his debut, full-length album Harlan & Alondra which features artists such as Guapdad 4000, A$AP Ferg, Ty Dolla $ign, Snoop Dog, and Khalid.
You can listen to Harlan & Alondra on Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
To close things out, and in agreement with one of the top comments on this, here’s one of the most “aesthetically pleasing” music videos I’ve ever seen.
